I saw the Manatees!
12/02/2002

I went to Tarpon Springs today to see this little Greek fishing town on the West coast of FL.

We arrived in the city park that is along one of the inlets and I was talking to the boss on the phone when I spotted one surface for air. They create a pattern in the water before they surface very much like the whales off of Cape Cod. I saw the ring and was looking at it quizzically when all of a sudden the head pops out of the water for a breath of air. The body surfaces then the low flat tail. I was so excited, I wanted to take all my cloths off and jump in the water to swim with them. It was a little to cold so I got some photos of them I saw at least 8 different ones in the waterway.

We went for a tourist ride out to the sponge diving area. It was a nature type trip and got to see lots of birds, an eagle, an egret, a heron and some nifty other birds I forgot the names of. It was a 75 min ride and was well worth the money. OH, I forgot, dad will not let me pay for anything. I wanted to buy dinner tonight at the little Greek café but he was insulted. I did manage to get a nifty pair of sandals I can’t wait to wear and some olive oil soap that the Greek woman tell me will stop the aging process dead in its tracks.

All in all it was a lovely day by the sea.

I am up at 4:30 to get the 6:50 flight in the morning. I hope I can sleep a little on the plane ride back. I am having trouble falling asleep here, I don’t have Saba to curl up with. I guess you just get used to having company in bed. I wish it was a man instead of a dog, but it just has to be the right man. Hum, do you think..... Never mind.

Uno: all men ARE dogs.

and two-o: them egrets, herons and red tail hawks, shoot we got them here in town. Plus some red-headed woodpeckers. Not to be confused with those other ones.
