Who left the toy for Saba?
12/22/2002
Yesterday it was off to do the bulk of the holiday shopping. I headed out of town after a short meeting with a new group of folks.
I know it was going to be a long day. First Stop, the grocery store. I was patiently waiting for Mom out side, watering a few plant, picking up some stuff from the garden when it dawns on me, Mom is inside washing the dishes and cleaning. I yell to her “ hey Mom, lets get going we are going to be late.” We managed to get the Christmas eve dinner set, all the trimmings. Off to the coffee house for an hour meeting, got Kramer on the way. Next was the real shopping and it was the Saturday before Christmas. I had Mom along so we could get her presents. I was not sure on sizes, styles etc. Hours later we emerged with bundles and bags of stuff. Kramer is so good about carrying the bags, he is so well trained. (well, in bag lugging at least.) A quick trip to San Marcos for pizza and then back to Austin to drop Kramer off. I thought we were heading home, but NO, we had to do the Austin Christmas lights before we could go home. We meander off to the lake and the audacious display of light. We hit prime time for strollers. I had to dodge, dart and avoid all these millions of kids.
I was thinking on the walk, Oh poor Saba, he has been home all day, must be hungry, no one to play with….
I finally pull into the drive and see my little boy emerging from his dog house. He takes a big stretch and runs into the back yard. I secure the fence and to my amazement, he has a new toy. It is a huge bone, a fabric bone with an interesting squeak. Saba is running around in circles, nudging me with it. I know Saba has a life at home, lots of friends and family that drop by. But this? Art, the Mail Man drops him cookies, Roco and Sara stop by to play. Various neighbors talk to him sweetly as they pass by on the way to/from work and school. Someone special must have given this toy to him. He was racing around the house with his new squeaky bone all evening long. It ended up in bed with us last night and first thing this morning he is making it squeak again.
I finally got some Devota time in after Mom went to bed. I was watching the Speed Channel, the NASCAR year in review. Ah, sweet dreams, cars going very fast in my dreams last night.
