The Tux was rented, the cab was late but everything worked out fine.
01/22/2003

It was in a mad dash to get ready for the ball. I had ONE hour to pull it off. Poor Saba, he got put outside for the evening. I couldn’t have dog fur on my ball gown.

I rushed home from work and got all the goodies prepped. Took the tags off the purse, the dress, the jacket. I hoped in the shower and then started working on the hair. I only had one chance to do it right. The stress. Have you ever tried to do an up do your self? Long hair can be cumbersome. It worked, not as neat and tidy as I wanted but I got it all up with a dozen bobby pins.

Makeup next then the dress and shoes. They all worked out fine. I was ready at exactly 7:00 p.m. Cranky came over and took a few photos. She also snapped that tiny little hook on the top of the dress for me. How is a single girl suppose to get that one hooked? You would have to be a contortionist for that little maneuver. P. showed up all nicely pressed and looking quite handsome.

I had called the taxi earlier in the day to reserve a ride as I figured they would be swamped. They forgot to pick me up on time. I called and they did dispatch a cab in a few minuets. As we arrived I asked P. if he was going to open the door for me, and yes he was. I didn’t want to be sitting in the cab waiting for the door to open. The line was about 25 people to get in the place and there were cameras every ware. P. ducked to a different entrance to avoid them. I guess his punk rock friends would die if they saw where I made him take me.

10 thousand men and woman dressed for the evening. It was a pretty site and people watching was the sport of the evening. There were 2 huge ball rooms and 3 stages. The music was an eclectic mishmash of styles. Country, Tejano, piano and alt. County. I guess they had to be politically correct in the booking. They had some finger food and drinks were 5.00 per. If it was my event, I would have arranged things for a little better traffic flow and had more tables and chairs. Those goofy girl shoes hurt your feet after a few hours of standing on concrete. We stayed until about 11 and then headed home. I am glad I brought my little jacket as the cold front arrived when we were inside and there was a line for cabs on the way home.

About 11:30 Saba starts barking to warn me something is not right. I hear a knock on the door. I have to run and grab a robe, I am half undressed at this point. I answer the door and it is the cab driver. He was so nice, P. left his cell phone in the cab. Wasn’t that nice, he came back to return it? You have to love Austin Cabs! I love the Big Small town I live in!
