Space Tragedy, new hair and an old flame
02/02/2003
I spent the morning talking with mom. I got a recap of all the events in FL. We were on the phone for a bout an hour and a half. There was a lot of information to share. I hung up and got into the morning routine for getting ready for work, and the phone rang again.
Mom was the first to tell me about the space shuttle being lost. The initial news reports said the shuttle had broken up over south central Texas. It happened a few miles up the road. I do not recall hearing anything different nor had I heard any emergency vehicles. I turned out to be a few hundred miles north and east of here. Scary thought a machine breaking up like that. I am amazed that there was no apparent loss of life on the ground. It was a sad day as the new coverage continued all day. The poor family’s to have the death of there loved ones splayed across all the world. I hope the investigation goes quickly and we find out what happened. The idea of space travel is still appealing, there is a great deal of research that is done and it is just cool. My thoughts are with the family’s and I will say a prayer for them this morning at church.
I headed off the see Dixie mid afternoon. I finally got an appointment and got the long locks trimmed up. I had her add a boost of color. Blond hair tends to get really mousy during the winter. Not a lot of sunshine to bring out the natural highlights. She used some product called 2 shades up. I guess I can’t say it is my natural color anymore. It is my summer color just a little early.
I saw one of my neighbors yesterday afternoon and she told me her boyfriends band, The Seth Walker Band, was going to play the Continental Club last night. She asked if I might be able to go as it was there first time at the club. I called Cranky and told her about the early show and she said she would like to go. We headed out for dinner, stopped home and then headed for the club. As we were heading out the door, Cranky grabbed the local paper to see who else was playing. It was the Booze Weasels. I had this strange feeling in my gut as she said that. I have been friends with one of the members since shortly after I got to Austin. We have a history and I still talk to him on occasion. I felt like a little kid all night long. I still get goose bumps when he walks on the stage. I love his playing and he, as cranky said “just makes me feel all ugooly inside”. I didn’t intend to but I bumped into him during the break on the way to the restroom. I got a hug and a smile and YES, he still makes me ugooly. The night was full of some fun little snippets of memories. We ended up staying till the last note was played. I had a warm and fuzzy feeling as Saba and I drifted off to sleep last night.
