Homicide and Sex Crimes last night.

I dashed out of the office last night, I was trying to get to class on time and Saba was just being obstinate. He didn’t want to go out, he didn’t want to eat his dinner and I was in a rush. Poor baby got kicked outside with no dinner as I dashed out the door.
I was expecting the Homicide discussion to be tough on the eyes. There was a powerpoint presentation that include real crime scene photos. We saw a hanging, suicide, where the guy hung himself from a big ass oak tree in a park, he looked relatively peaceful just hanging there. I was pissed when I heard that a 12 year old and his grandma were the ones that found him. He managed to victimize 2 other people in his final act. We saw a drug deal gone bad photo, the guy got his throat slashed because he wouldn’t give up the drugs. The police later found his stash, a couple of kilos of coke and a bunch of black tar heroine.
There was a murder suicide by husband and wife. She had packed his crap up and left it in the driveway. When he got home he saw it, argued with her and then shot her in the garage. Stepped out side and then shot himself. All as the woman’s 2 sons were in the house, they escaped out a back window. The poor neighbor witnessed the guy blow his head off in the driveway as she was going to the mailbox. Nasty scene, lot of blood and gore.
Next we saw photos of an unsolved death. A transient woman ended up dead in someone’s bed, after a night of sex. She had tremendous bruises about her head and on her arms and legs. Problem was, she was in a major fight 2 days before down in San Marcos, got a ticket for fighting. She headed up to Austin and got 2 tickets in the park for public intoxication. The officers noted the “damage” to the woman when she was given the tickets. She had a history of falling down when she was drunk and it couldn’t be determined what caused her to die, a fall, the fight or something else.
If you ever think about murder, don’t do it in Austin. They have a 90% or better conviction rate.
Sex crimes was also interesting. Most of the reports here in Austin evolve from 6th street. Most are not prosecuted, the DA or the Grand Jury decline prosecution due to the amount of alcohol found in the victim. 80-90% are acquaintance “rapes” meaning the victim knows the perpetrator. I gathered most stranger incidents happen in the parks in the early morning/late evening as woman go out to exercise alone. Silly, those are completely preventable.
I got a message from P. as I was driving home, I turn the cell off during class. He needed a ride to pickup his car. To bad, by the time I got the message, he gave up on me and had called a taxi. When I got home, Saba was really glad to see me, poor baby it was after 10 by the time he got supper.
