Child abuse last nigh in class.

Oh disturbing, very disturbing. How could someone do these things to a kid? We saw a nanny cam video that was just outrageous, damage to some of these kids that was out of my realm of reality.
We saw the censored version of the presentation, the one they do for the police academy is much more graphic, this was disturbing enough for me. We didn’t see the dead children, we mostly saw bruising and broken bones. We got some information on burning and scalding, choking and shaking babies. All very disheartening. The abuser is normally someone that is close to the family. Parent and boyfriend of mom, are the usual suspects. The detective doing the presentation told us there is no social/economic link in his experience, cuts across all races, all incomes.
I was wondering a lot last night what happens to these kids. They have a look, it is a deep shallow look. It is a frightened face, it is withdrawn. I can’t imagine the hell these kids go through before it is discovered. The reports generally come in from hospitals and schools. What happens to these kids before they reach school age? This presentation rocked my little sheltered world. I don’t want to think there are people out there that are that cruel to children.
The saddest part for me was learning about the penalty phase. The guy we saw on the video only got probation since there was no permanent damage to the child. He punched, threw and mauled this child, about 4 moths old. This is one sick son of a bitch, if it was my kid, I would have just shot the bastard.
