Off to the races,
10/10/2003
Up at 5:30 am, pack the car, answer way to many emails and start the trek north.
Got out of Austin around 6:45, later than I wanted but thank goodness I was heading north and not south. There was this SUV perched on the V of concrete by an exit ramp. It was right side up, just sort of sitting there. There were a bunch of tow trucks, a bunch of cops and traffic was backed up for miles. I got a little slowed but not that much. I managed to get to the track by 10:20 am.
It was practice and qualifying today. IRL, NASCAR Trucks were my favorites. I managed to have a lot of fun in the stands. It was all guys today. Some how in my dash to get to the track, I forgot to stop and get beer. I hate when I do that. I had the soft drinks but not the beer. Alas, it is a NASCAR race. You just have to love it. I started to gather up my stuff to head out for a beer run when the guys ask me where I am going. I tell them I had a blond moment and just forgot the beer and was heading out to get some. They say, don’t bother, we have plenty. It was awfully nice of them to cover for my mistake. We had a great time, we drank a little, bet a little and just talked racing. This is the way I like to spend my days off, at the track, in the sunshine, enjoying some camaraderie with the boys.
I found the hotel, glad I reserved a room, it is packed, no room left at the inn. Race weekend, TX vs. OU weekend, the state fair and the cowboys play. Fort Worth is packed this weekend. Heading to dream land after a short night last night.
