Oh what a lucky girl I am!
10/12/2003

I got to the track yesterday morning and as I was walking into the gate, I met Bill. Bill had and extra ticket also. We got our David Starr bobble head dolls and were heading towards our seats.

We chatted a bit and realized that we could have the best of both worlds. I have start/finish line and he has box seats. We traded extra tickets, and ended up having a spectacular day! He shared his extra pit pass so we were able to go behind the walls and take a tour. Lots of trucks, lots of IRL cars and lots of activity. We got to get autographs from the legends of Indy driver, a bunch of photos and just a good time.

We headed up to the box seats and had a little nosh . It was nice to get out of the weather, it was air-conditioned and I got to get refreshed a little. We headed back down to my seats, on the start finish line for the races. The trucks were exciting. David Starr a local boy was looking good in contention when he was forced up into the wall during the first couple of laps. His day got a little worse, after multiple stops to fix the body damage, his engine blew. Poor boy, it was his birthday and he got a DNF.

Finish order of race: Brendan Gaughan, Travis Kvapil, Ted Musgrave, Carl Edwards , Andy Houston, Jon Wood, Terry Cook, Dennis Setzer, Rick Crawford and Bobby Hamilton.

The Infinity pro Series finished the day of racing. A lot of the fans left but it was a great race. It was there end of season race. Thiago Medeiros, of Brazil, ended up winning the race. There was an amazing crash during the race, both drivers ended up walking away. Well, one was hopping but it was amazing to see them get out of the cars. One car ended up on top of the other one. I am sure it will be featured on Speed News but they are going to broadcast the race: ESPN2 at 3 p.m. (EDT) on Oct. 16.

Had a lovely dinner and headed back to the hotel to watch the Winston Cup race. Tony Stewart ended up winning. I wonder what happened to Robbie, I did see that the car went into the wall. I guess, I will have to try to catch the Wednesday night re-broadcast or wait until his race report is up on the web.

Managed to get a little sleep. The girls next door decided to have quite a party at 2:30 that went until about 4:00. Then the phone rang, it was cranky, the fire trucks woke her up. Seems there was a water leak last night and the fire department was called to shut it off. One of the tenants toilets never shut off and the water was all over the floor of the top unit and then drained down to the lower unit. Some times, I just can’t get away from work, even a 3 hour drive away.

Off to the Indy Racing League Championship today. I think I willl bang on door in the room next door, just to make sure they get disturbed a little.
