I didn’t have a lot of time over the weekend to update, I had a house guest, had the conference and very little sleep. Yup, it was fun, yup there were some really nice people, yup, I made some new friends, but I am VERY glad it is over.
The event came off well, there were a few snags but nothing outrageous as far as I was concerned. I got back from lunch late on Saturday afternoon, somone else had to pick up the registrations (it shold have been closed by then.) Little things like forgetting to grab the office supplies out of the rooms Saturday evening, having to move the Sunday programming to another room. You just shouldn’t schedule a preaching, singing, noisy group against a rowdy, noisy, “blasphemous” reading group with just a portable wall in between them. The hotel staff moved the room with great speed and we went on down to the lower banquet room. Thanks to the other committee members for handling that, I didn’t event know what was up.
Bubba Shawn was a hit with his 2 readings, he did one on the Web Writers Gone Wild and then closed the Texas Readings with his piece about the street preacher. He was shining throughout the conference (minus the work day Saturday-Bocktoberfest). Kramer was a hit being his usual self, charming and engaging and he is a good reader also. Fredlet was there, we managed to grab a bite to eat after it ended on Sunday Afternoon. I wish we got a little more time to visit. The poor waitress at the post conference lunch, it was a rowdy group over at Chewy‘s, we kept having to adjust the number for the table, 8 then 10 then we finally ended up at 11. All in all I am quite pleased, I think we did a good job, I liked my house guest and I am looking forward to a lot less email in the mornings.
