On the way to Phoenix- At the airports
10/30/2003

I met up with D Ash on the way to Phoenix today at Austin Airport. He is the uncle of The BRANDON ASH the Racecar driver who will be qualifying the 02 for the Winston Cup Race on Sunday. Ash usually drives in the Winston West Series. D and I chatted a bunch on the way to the race and it turned out the we were staying in adjoining hotels. I offered him a ride to the hotel if he didn’t mind waiting for Brother.

We collected up my luggage and waited about 20 minuets for brother to arrive. I saw Robby Gordon! I couldn’t walk up and say hi, but I did try to yell out to him. Problem was that Brother and he were on the escalator at the same time! Dam it, I couldn’t miss my brother but I wanted to say hi. Oh well I am sure I will get to see him at the track this weekend. The nice thing about Robby is that he is very available to his fans. I want to find out where he will be racing the sand truck this weekend.

D Ash, brother and I managed to get all our gear into the economy box I rented for the weekend and headed off for the track. Gosh, Phoenix 5:00 traffic is awful. It took quite a bit of time to get to the hotel. I was driving and that was a good thing. Guys just hate traffic. We managed to get to the hotel, grab a bit to eat. We had to do a little shopping for a cooler, some water and soft drinks. What better place to go shopping than Wally World on a Thursday Night race weekend. The place was packed with RV’s stocking up for the race.

I am sitting by the hot tub as I type this, Brother is swimming in the pool and enjoying the hot tub. I forgot a bathing suite but I can grab one at Wally World tomorrow if I really want to jump in! I am heading off to bed early tonight, practice starts at 9:30 a.m., there is the Truck Race and then the Fan Appreciation thing. It will be a long day and I don’t expect to be back at the hotel until after 11. Two nice guys just offered me a beer. They were quite handsome and will be here for the weekend.

Brandon Ash didn't make the Winston Cup Race. He was struggling in qualifying but just couldn't get it together for the qualifying laps. Sorry to see that but I think he is an up an comming racer! We will keep an eye on him. He is a good young driver.
