Hershey Kisses 300 got red flagged by rain & Hallmark Stress Day Over.
02/15/2004
Gosh, I hate Valentines Day, I just find the holiday deplorable. I don’t think most men need to be reminded to be nice to your wife/girlfriends. The ads are guilt inspiring, buy a diamonds, get chocolate, don’t forget the card and on and on they go.
I waited and waited for the 300 to get started back up yesterday afternoon. The race only ended up being 31 laps out of 120. It got red flagged due to rain. It will be continued on Monday. There was the big wreck already on the track and then we just waited. On lap 11 eight cars got wrecked. Mike Bliss got loose on turn 2 and off they went. He ended up taking 8 cars with him out of the race. Cars were slipping and sliding and heading into the wall. The in car cameras showed just how difficult it was to see with the smoke and spinning. I know the Busch series is running with larger spoilers and there is an aero part just above the windshield, I don’t know what it is called. This is the setup from 2 years ago in the Cup cars. I understand that once the air gets off the hood, the cars get loose and are hard to control. Daytona is a Super Speedway and with the restrictor plates, it is all drafting that wins the race.
I was a bit surprised to see Robby Gordon and Dale Jr. working together in the draft before the race got stopped. I wonder if that has something to do with the Michelle Waltrip’s failure to draft with Jr. in the 125’s on Thursday. I know there was some controversy over that lack of team work Thursday. There were some “words” exchanged by the crew chiefs on Thursdays post race coverage.
It was a bit difficult to find Robby’s car on the track when the race was on. I am not used to looking for the # 55 on the track. He will start 2nd behind Jr. when the race resumes on Monday.
More coverage today with the Dayton 500 this afternoon! Off to church and then I will be watching the race this afternoon.
