Brothers bag made the right flight and I got Robby’s autograph yesterday.
04/02/2004

I saw the bag in the claim area, so he did make it on time to the airport but the screening equipment went on the fritz yesterday all the passengers got delayed. I still made him pay for parking. We made it to the track for Busch qualifying, I managed to return the scanner charger from Phoenix last year and pick up a new one for the weekend.

The qualifying speeds were quick and the # 55 car will start 17th for the event. Kyle Busch nailed the pole with a 189.974 and Robby came in at 187.663, that’s 0.331 behind the pole sitter. Not a bad qualifying. I did hear on the scanner that the 02 of Hornaday was having problems and the officials were thinking about impounding the car. I didn’t get a lot of details, they switched to a different frequency. He did manage to qualify and came in 19th.

We attended the FANDANGO fan party at the track last night. It was hosted by Michael Waltrip, Kenny Schrader and Helio Castroneves. It was a fun filled night with a bit of bickering going on. I did think Michaels explanation of Jr.’s fine yesterday was a bit of a wish. Jr. got fined 10K and 25 driver and owner points for his intentional spin out at Bristol last weekend. He said it on the radio he needed a caution. Dumb move on his part. Michael thought he would appeal the fines, say he was only trying to excuse his dumb move with his spotter. Yah, right.

I managed to see Robby at his merchandise trailer between qualifying and the Fandango event. Brother and I were looking for some CAT stuff for him when he mentioned that my boy was doing autographs. I stood in line, got my ticket signed and brother snapped a photo. I also got a new # 55 cap and Robby signed that also. It was fun, my heart went pitter patter so Robby is forgiven for having a bad start to the season. I will wear my hat with pride today, I think he will do well in the Busch series this year. Just one request: Woman’s # 55 shirts please! I like the girl t’s better then the boys. They just don’t have them yet.

Today it is off to the Cup series qualifying, the ROMCO race and IROC races tonight. Should be a good day at the track.
