TMS race recap. Robby Gordon needs a new Cup spotter.
04/07/2004
I can’t find my notes from the weekend at the races so we will have to get the short version today. They are somewhere in the house or car.
Robby Gordon came in 3rd for the Busch race on Saturday afternoon. Go Fruit of the Loom Racing! His car was strong and with the cautions he was able to make the adjustments he needed to keep it in the top 5. He and his spotter were working together all during the race to keep him updated on progress… Not the story on Sunday for the Cup race. I don’t understand why he and his cup spotter do not communicate. I was listening as Robby was asking for various things such as lap times and car positions and there was no response from the spotter. What the heck is up with that? Is RCR so heavily involved with Kevin Harvick and Johnny Sauter that they are leaving Robby out in the wind? Just my thoughts here, I have nothing to back it up. I just seems to me when a driver can nail a top 5 finish on Saturday with a not so good first pit stop and he ends up 23rd on Sunday something is wrong. I know the track conditions changed from happy hour to race set-up, it was a bit cloudy so the track temperature dropped. Robby, along with all the other cars were fighting loose and tight conditions all day long. As soon as an adjustment was made, the car would come in and then go too far the other way. It was a frustrating day for all the drivers.
Jr. kept hearing the Taco Stand on his radio, it was funny with the cross traffic in Spanish on the radio. I guess they just got the frequencies crossed. Brother ended up buying me dinner on Sunday night, Scott Wimmer spun out across the front stretch and Robby beat him so it was off to the nice restaurant. My new seat mates were a lot of fun, Buddy is to my left and we have a new guy to the right. The boys still have the seats on the isle but are talking about making a change. I got to see Bill and his son, we headed out to dinner after the Busch race on Saturday night. I got to see T. on Saturday for a bit, I couldn’t find a ticket for him on Sunday in our section and I don’t know if he got one or not. All in all I got to do a lot of socializing over the weekend, 4 days of racing, a pit pass, (thanks Bill!) and I got to see Brother for a while. That’s what race weekends are all about.
