Wind, Cold, Tornados, a Rainbow and a couple of races.
04/16/2007
I was away in Fort Worth, chasing after my favorite driver: Robby Gordon.
I decided to leave the lap top home for a few days and take a break. It was much needed; I had a lot of fun and lost my voice cheering on Sunday.
For those of you that didn’t watch the races: Thursday was beautiful, Busch practice went with out a hitch. Brother missed the airplane again, but that’s a whole different story. Friday we had rain, lot of rain and qualifying got canceled. I was huddled up in the grandstands up under the overhang. We decided to head of the speed way when it started to rain harder. The track was evacuated: there were tornados in the area. I wanted to get away from the mobile homes and headed down route 156 towards the hotel and food. As we were heading down the road it got green, hail started falling and the clouds started spinning. Yup, right in the path of the storms. We pulled off at a JC penny warehouse and sought shelter from the storm. I tucked in between 2 18 wheelers to avoid some of the damage. There was no where else to run. We waited out the storm: me feeling rather vulnerable and brother bitching I wasn’t listening to him. Well, needless to say we got through it.
We stopped for dinner at a nice Italian place on the way back, sat and watched the storm pass further towards Fort Worth. I spotted a double rainbow as I was eating my appetizers and thanking the good Lord for his help getting me through the storm.
We headed back to the hotel and found out the twisters had hit there also. It was about a 1/8 of a mile up the road where the signs were down and twisted. Branches were strewn about and the likes. We ambled up to the room, got settled in for a quite evening when the power went out a couple of times. The sky would light up with an eerie blue glow as transformers burst into flames around us. Somehow about an hour later the lights came back on. It was a strange Friday the 13th.
I will update my Race adventures after I get a bit of a nap. I am so tired from the weekend, I am nodding off as I type.
