My hand is getting better: Dad came to visit & Robby Gordon needs to stop getting in on owner points.
05/09/2007

I was ready to watch the race Saturday night with Dad and with the rain delay; it was time to shuffle plans.

It has been a fun week post surgery. Dad flew in on Thursday and we were able to spend the days chatting, shopping mostly for books and little things. He managed to fire up the barbeque and we had a couple of very nice dinners. We made quite the pair: me with the wrist taped up and him with his shoulder still healing up. We had a lot of laughs, it was great to see him, and he is so supportive of me. I count my lucky stars I got him for a dad.

Dad was a bit shocked how big the house is. I have been emailing him photos along the way, but he was shocked when we pulled into the driveway on Thursday how large it is. I guess it’s like a lot of things, seeing it in person is always better. We laughed about the layout: he has no idea what feng shui or vastu are but he liked the layout. We had quite the time as we made pizza the other night: I had to try to figure out the new oven: its digital and I am a “modern’ woman (don’t cook much). It took a bit of the oven computer bleeping, but we got dinner cooked.

We went to an awards ceremony on Friday. I got recognized of helping out on a project. Dad got to meet my co-workers, my former supervisors and some of my chain of command. It made it a lot more fun to sit through with Dad along. Sometimes those things get quite boring.

Sunday we headed down on the bus to the Old Pecan Street Festival. I told him it would be a lot of dust collectors and junk but we meandered along the booths. We stopped over at the PD so he could see the office. Only a few people were around, but he met a few of them. Now he can visualize where I am when I am talking about work. As we made our way along the booths a piece of jewelry caught my eye. I have been looking for an amethyst necklace to replace the one I lost at Christmas. I found it: square cut and silver. I picked out a silver chain to wear it on and when I went to pay for it, Dad insisted on buying it for me. I have been wearing it proudly since then.

I headed home to watch the Richmond race: half on tape, half live. Robby has gotten in on points the last two races and I am getting a bit worried. It’s now two bad weeks in a row. It’s time to start turning things around Robby.

I had to go back to the office on Monday and was a bit worried Dad would be board by himself for the 8 hours. Not the case with my Dad. He had Saba and Sid and my tenant’s Corgi dog and a visiting Corgi dog running around the yard and the house. Dad was playing on the computer and reading his new books. He was quite content until I got home from work.

I was sad when I dropped him off at the airport on Tuesday afternoon. We had such a nice visit. I am so glad we have the time to spend together. I like my Dad he is such a neat guy.
