My drivers didn’t do very well this weekend,
06/11/2007
But I had a lot of fun.
I had a funny moment Saturday night before the race. I was waiting for the race to begin and I realized I needed some food. The drivers are brought down through the stands for the IRL race so they shut the grandstands down just before that. I headed out to the concourse and the drivers were sitting in the trucks under the stands. I managed to snag my food and was trying to get my ketchup when I could hear/see them pointing at me. I just turned around and gave them a big smile. I was in a rush to get back to my seat, and scurried off. I wasn’t going to wait around for them to get out of the car, but I did get a big smile from Helio and Sam. Ah, isn’t that precious.
In Saturday nights IRL Race, Helio got tangled up in someone else’s mess and hit the wall hard. He was running 4th after a bad pit stop earlier in the race. I think it was Foyt’s car that lost the wheel, but I think I saw a crash starting earlier. In the open wheel classes, a tire can severely damage the drivers. They don’t have the protection that a stock car has. It as still a Penske driver that won the race: congrats to Sam Hornish on his 3rd win at TMS. Brother had left a message for me, he saw the back of my head on TV when they brought the drives down, he was watching the race from home.
I left Fort Worth early Sunday morning and had an uneventful drive home. I didn’t feel like staying up there, I didn’t feel like going to the museums or anything. I thought I had a date for cabinets, but again they didn’t materialize. I guess cabinets are going to be allusive in my world. I keep getting promises for them, but they don’t show up.
Robby broke something at Pocono; he ended up 41st for the race Sunday. I was talking to brother and he was giving me race updates. Saba and I headed for the park for a swim Sunday afternoon.
