It was a perfect evening.

The sun came out, we went to the park and then I went out to play.
I headed out of the office at a quick pace last night, the sun was out for a rare appearance and I wanted to get my favorite 4 legged friend run down. I stopped home, got him and headed to our favorite park. There weren’t a lot of folks there, but there were enough to keep Saba busy for an hour.
I headed home and returned a telephone call from my friend John. He is one of my music buddies; music is always a topic when we are on the phone. I have known him for years; he’s the one that introduced me to Austin. It was nice to get caught up. I hadn’t talked to him in a while. A bit of news about this and that, some gossip and chit chat. I like that about old friends, you can pick things up where you left them off. I told him I was on my way out to a show.
I got changed and dolled up a bit and headed to Antone’s for a special show. I was wondering why it had such an early start time 9:00. It was part of the NAMM tradeshow and featured Storyville: David Grissom, David Holt, Chris Latyton, Tommy Shannon and Malford Milligan. It was a powerhouse of TX sound, power guitar, powerful vocals and a great backline. As the guys came on stage, I had a wonderful fuzzy feeling come over me. I have a lot of great memories tied up with their shows.
As the set continued, I found myself tapping my toes, singing along with the band and I could feel the stress just dissipating out of me. Suddenly the ach in my back and he stress in my neck just seemed to go away. I was out having a bit of fun, it was very nice and very welcome. I felt like I was back in my club hopping days. I was pleased with the reaction from the crowd: mostly industry folks but the power of that line up is just mesmerizing. I stayed a bit and did some socializing but headed out the door before the second band took the stage.
I pulled into the driveway at home and the girls were having a party. I dropped my bag and headed over with a beer. They were playing guitars and singing songs and having a nice “South Austin” kind of night.
I felt like I had taken a trip back in time: I love music, am a bit spoiled living here in Austin. I need to make a point of going out and enjoying this type of night a bit more often than I have lately.
I was after all a perfect Friday Night: I nodded off into dreamland with the sounds of a new CD, voices so familiar, music so enchanting.
