It started out as busy week and ended up just crappy.
09/03/2007

Friday was one of the worst day's I have had at work.

I got a bunch of overtime, so no complaining there, it is always nice to get a bit extra in my paycheck. Monday was an officer involved shooting, those are very high stress. I worked late into the evening for that call back.

A bad guy was arrested on Thursday, that guy really gave me the creeps. Another manhunt ended when the detective went public on the warrant for another man. He self surrendered at the jail in front of the TV cameras that were covering the Laura Hall trial.

She got a verdict of guilty on Friday, but she is out waiting sentencing until Tuesday. (She’s the one that dismembered the corps for her on again off again lover, and then fled to Mexico with him. He has already been convicted of murder.) I can’t believe she has a new boyfriend hanging on her arm when she is on trial for mutilating a corps. What is he thinking? Could you be intimately involved with a person like that? Not me, I don’t care the thought of someone doing that just creeps me out.

There was also a six murder crime spree that started in TX and ended in Long Island, I wasn’t directly involved with that one, but a call came into my line about it. When people have information they want to give, they often times just call their local police department. I understand that and I managed to get the information needed to the right investigators.

I went to the grand opening of Town Lake Park on Wednesday night. That felt good to be able to walk into the park I have been trying to get pushed through the city hoops for six years. There are a couple of people that have worked for twenty years on the project; they were recognized by the officials. I was mentioned by name by one of the neighborhood representatives for my hard work. It felt good to be part of the group that got this park off the ground and built. I stopped on Thursday morning on the way to work to take a stroll in it, watch some kids play in the fountains and it felt even better. I am proud to say I had a hand in its creation.

I had my semi annual review on Friday afternoon. This was all done at my desk, out in public and with other people walking past, my still answering the unit telephones. That turned into a disaster. My civilian supervisor didn’t write anything on my review, I got the successful grading, but when I asked what it would take to get a higher rating, it all went down hill from there. I guess I hit a sensitive spot with her. It wasn’t a very effective meeting; needless to say I am rather upset about it.

Gee, after a disastrous review, I had to stay at work for 2.5 more hours, finish my shift and then go back to work Friday night for 3 hours to answer hot line calls about another murder that went public on Friday. All I really wanted to do was leave, have a drink and get out of the office for the 3 day holiday weekend.

I am not looking forward to Tuesday morning; I assume there will be a follow up meeting and more discussion about my review. I spent my Saturday morning documenting the meeting, who was there, what was said and got my points in order. I am really not looking forward to walking back in on Tuesday. My mood has been blah this weekend: I feel like I need do something, I don’t know what, I don’t know where to turn and I am feeling frustrated about work right now.

I managed to pick up some books at the used bookstore; they were on sale so I got myself a stack. I have holed up reading most of the weekend. Doing a bit of napping, a bit of race watching and just trying to get myself re-grounded. I hope my pager doesn't go off, I don't want to face work until I am scheduled to be there on Tuesday.
