Texas Truck Race.
11/03/2007
Wow, what a finish and almost a fight.
I headed up to the speedway a bit early, came up on Thursday night for the truck qualifying and went to Cup and Busch practice before heading to the airport to pick up Brother. We stopped and grabbed a late lunch/early dinner on the way back to the track. We were a bit late for Cup qualifying, darn it. I managed to find Robby’s trailer before the truck race, got a couple of caps and headed back to the seats. I pulled the caps out of the bag and one is tattered. I looked at it quizzically and headed back to the merchandise trailer: I guess it’s a guy thing. All those type of caps have the edges torn, a bit tattered around the edges. I guess my new cap has the “worn’ look.
The Truck race was fantastic: on our feet for a lot of the race. It was starting to get a bit uneventful and looked like it might turn into a fuel mileage race but then the ciaos broke out. One late lap caution, then on to the green white checkered finish and there were trucks flying every ware. The final lap ended with crashed trucks just trying to cross the start/finish line. The unofficial finish was Musgrave, Gaughn, Skinner, Bliss, Crawford, Sprague and Crafton. It screws up the points race for sure.
I had a problem in the stands last night: apparently there is no checking of tickets for the reserved section seats I have. There was a gaggle of people that took over the seats, about eight of them. They were quite drunk and obnoxious all race long. At the last restart, one of their buddies got up on the seat and squished his way into seats that were taken in front of me. I told him he had to move before the restart and he got fresh with me. After the race he started name calling and being rude. I called him out and it started to get ugly. Perhaps I shouldn’t have grabbed the cap off his head. He wouldn’t look at me but just kept calling me names. I was a bit pissed off. I thought for a bit he was going to throw a punch. That would have been a mess. I had my brother with me and he is a big guy. It eventually deescalated but it did not end my night very nicely.
I think I will be sending an email to the track this morning. I am really pissed off about this lack of ticket checking and the lack of access control at the track. I have start/finish line tickets; I pay plenty for my seats and don’t feel I need to be challenged by a bunch of drunks when I tell them I want to see the rest of the race.
