Congrats to Chad Knaus, Rick Hendrick and Jimmy Johnson.

I managed to watch the last half of the race Sunday afternoon.
It was not quite the nail biting finish I was hoping for, but it was the last race for the season: only 89 days until the next race. I am glad for Chad and the Lowe’s team: They are great competitors, Chad is amazing on top of the pit box week in and week out (except when he gets caught pushing the rules!). The pit crew is great, the engines are always strong. I wish I could get behind his driver, but Jimmy just doesn’t do it for me.
I am still a huge Robby Gordon fan. Robby is still slugging it out and with the owners points he will be able to start the season next year without the stress of having to qualify on time. I am so proud of Juan Pablo Montoya he made the grade in my mind in his transition year from open wheel. There will be a couple of other open wheel guys heading over next season.
I was having a discussion with another fan about the open wheel guys heading over to Nascar. I am all for it, I think it will make for a broader appeal in the sport. I think the international exposure will be a good thing for the fans and the sport. As IRL and CART struggle in their slow death spiral, I am sure the drivers are just looking for a spot to race. If I were an open wheel driver, as soon as my contract was up, I would be heading for the states, looking for a ride. I wish the advertisers and the factory reps would start to see the change. It is time to sink some of that money into stock cars instead of open wheel. From a fan perspective, open wheel is not as popular in the states, it doesn’t have the crowd draw and their racing seasons are just too short. I am not sure how the latest F1 scandal will play out, but I think that is the only open wheel series that is still very competitive, has a fan base and will continue.
I am off to the office this morning; it is going to be a short week with the Thanksgiving holiday. Two days of office work and then off for the long weekend. I am laying out the projects I want to get done at home: trim, Christmas decorating, moving some of the stuff from the storage shed to the attic. I have a list of other chores for the weekend, paperwork and coordinating a few events.
I need to move along, I have to figure out what to wear, what new bling to sport today at the office…. Yah, my bag of goodies from NYC, I think I made some nice choices.
