All Helio yesterday.

I focused on racing not on work yesterday.
I was wondering around the PD yesterday on my errands avoiding the latest gossip and griping. The Chief fired an officer the night before. I know all about the case, I worked the night of the shooting, helped put the case binders together, I updated the information in the computer and all the other administrative stuff I do.
I walked away from quite a few people yesterday when asked about the case, telling them I had no comments. I walked away from a discussion about use of force, saying I didn’t want any part of it. I avoided the questions, dodged the discussions and just focused on the Helio news.
It made it quite fun. I have a photo of me and Helio, me and Robby Gordon and other assorted racing photos at my desk. I held up the photo and told some of my detectives that “I had him first”. It made the day quite a fun, they didn’t realize it was Helio in the photo, he had his sunglasses on. When asked in the hallways and on the telephone, I replied, I am great, Helio is not engaged anymore. It took the focus off the bad day and the gossip that was going around the building.
I may have looked like a fool, but I did avoid the pitfall of questions I can’t answer, the pitfall of opinions I don’t want to share in public. Sometimes my job is just like that, I have a bit too much information, cases are still open and I can’t discuss them.
I read the independent investigators report on the way home and at the house last night. I pulled a copy of the report off the web; I guess its part of the public record now. I started to read it at work, but it was to large and I printed a copy to finish reading last night. I took out my pink highlighter and proceeded through the 104 pages. I am happy to say my unit got praise for its part in the investigation. My little part in the big scheme of things was noted. There were items I highlighted that I thought were good points.
