“I need to talk to a detective”
12/12/2007
I don’t have any available what can I help you with?
“Who is this?” I respond with my name…. “I need a detective to talk to, I will have one paged.” They are not available right now; we are working a critical incident. Yes, I understand I am only a civilian, but there are no detectives available right now, what can I help you with?
I thought I might just jump through the telephone and ring his mans neck. Yes an officer of course. I was working a critical incident today and I was the only one in the office that at wasn’t with a witness, at a scene or off for the day. Occasionally I am it, the only one you can talk to.
The worst part and I know this sounds bad, the person he is calling about isn’t deceased. He just had some procedural questions that I could have answered for him. I took a message, explained, to him I would have someone call him, but it might be a while before he got a call back. I found a detective to respond, I explained that the officer wouldn’t talk to me because I am “only a civilian.” I am sure my detective handled it appropriately.
Oh well, it made the day go by quickly. I gave me something to whine about tonight....
