My Desk at work.

Monday morning and someone else is logged onto my computer.
I headed into the office after a nice quiet weekend, expecting a flurry of activity at my desk. I saw on the news my unit was busy over the weekend, my pager didn’t go off and I didn’t have to go in. That was nice, but I could use some OT money about now.
Someone else had been using my computer, I logged that person off. I figured he was working at my desk on the weekend. My desk is out in the open, so it happens quite often and I am used to it. I manage to keep 2 drawers of just my stuff. One drawer is full of my projects, full of statistic sheets, cheat sheets for each murder or shooting event my unit works. The back of the drawer has all my emergency supplies: a bottle of water, a can of soup, some popcorn, an extra pair of nylons. There is also a first aid kit, a box of tissues and a small sewing kit. The bottom drawer gets left open for my backpack and my lunch sack.
The rest of the desk is wide open: supplies for the unit, current sheets for events that are being worked. It has projects that are ½ done in one section. I have an in box and an out box. Then there is the coffee cup that has residence, a foam stress ball, a bunch of pens and markers, a couple of different types of sticky note pads, a stapler, some highlighters, a letter opener, and some scratch paper. There is also a phone book: it has almost all the numbers I need, it takes up about a ¼ of an inch thick binder.
Yesterday was one of those days when I needed a phone number and I didn’t have a work number for that person. I only had a cell number; I kept that from last year when we were working a project together. One of the other units needed it, their admin called but I hesitated. I asked what detective needed it. Perhaps I should have just called and had him call back, but I didn’t. I made a mistake and realized it a bit later. I sent an email of apology, asked that person to send me his work numbers and a business card.
Last night was a quiet night at the house. I don’t need to do a big grocery store run since I am heading out of town. I stayed home, talked to a couple of people on the phone and called it a night. I will have to get to the store later in the week for a spot of milk and some dog food in a smaller sack to go with us on our adventure.
