Lonely Friday.
05/10/2008
I got put in my place.
I got to the office on Friday morning and knew it was going to be a long lonely day. The whole office was attending that class. I had to unlock the office door, turn the lights on to start my day. I muddled through a few calls, messages that could wait and then the communications center told me to watch a call. It turned out to be not what it seemed at first, but I paged out the information as it was available. It had a good ending so the detectives were able to stay in class.
I took a call from another agency: they had been searching for records and they had been transferred to the unit from another agency. I gathered the information they needed; I made a few calls, got the correct information and was able to call the out of state detective back with correct contact numbers and results and how to get copies of the reports from the agency that transferred him originally. It was their case, not ours.
I got a nice email from the city manager on Thursday. One of the people I helped sent an email thanking me and the detective that worked with her. I was sent to the chief’s office and on to my supervisors. Not a mention of it on Thursday afternoon or Friday. I didn’t even see the civilian supervisor on Friday. I ended up calling communications to let them know I was on the pager each time I left my work area.
I am the admin; I was put in my place a number of times this past week. College Interns, press conferences and posturing are the order of business right now. I will keep looking for another position. I gave it my best shot, I tried to wait it out but the direction the new management is taking doesn’t seem to be a fit for me. The decisions they make are affecting my life in a negative way. I don’t foresee any positive changes. I just have to remember: the dream job I had has changed, I am the only one that can change it.
I will continue to do my best to help the people that need it. I will continue to keep my mouth shut when I disagree with management decisions. I always do my best, I am proud of my work; I do the best I can. It was nice someone outside the department noticed.
