And I thought I had a bad day yesterday.

# 66 Scott Riggs and # 70 Johnny Sauter teams had an even worse day.
The cars got confiscated, Bootie Barker, Derick Jenning, Dave Skog and Thomas Harris the crew chief’s and car chief’s got suspended for 6 races and put on probation till the end of the year. Barker and Skog got fined 100K each. The teams got docked 150 points: car and owners. That was a rather expensive placement of the wing mounts.
Me, I just had a bad day at the office. I woke up and found out there was a murder overnight, I saw it on the news. I didn’t get called in so I did my usual morning routine and got to the office at my normal time. I tried to call the lead detective a couple of times: he always treats me nicely and I was offering to bring him something for breakfast. He didn’t answer any of his telephones so I just brought him something anyway. He wasn’t in the office when I got there, so he got it a bit later in the day. My day was a bit odd, a bit off all day long and by the time I left the office last night I was very frustrated. I got snapped at quite a few times, I got ignored a number of times and things didn’t flow smoothly for me at all.
I did get to see one of my favorite Texas Rangers yesterday; he stopped by to drop something off for me. We had a nice chat and he helped me a bit with a late call I had the other night. He said I did the right thing and appreciated I took the time with the caller and suggested I follow up with the other Ranger again yesterday. He thought the information was “interesting”. It’s nice to be validated by another professional, plus he is a Texas Ranger and that means a lot to me.
I headed out the door as quick as I could last night. I got caught griping with another admin as I was leaving the restroom, but I was blowing off steam and if there is a problem with that, too bad. I got tired of sucking in my emotions yesterday, I am afraid to snap back when I am treated badly or try to address the problem later, it’s just not worth the hassle to me. I learned that lesson already with my new management. The last time I tried to address that kind of problem, I ended up with a disciplinary memo in my file for being treated inappropriately by a co-worker. I know what I need to do and I am working on it.
