Weekly wrap up.
06/09/2008
I took a couple of days off work for racing.
It was time for the IRL and Truck races at TMS. I got distracted on Thursday, the ear and balance issue were causing me trouble again. I changed to a different medication on Wednesday and it was a bit over the top for me. I wasn’t feeling all that confident with a drive on Thursday morning so I stayed home, got a few chores done and then started on my way the next morning. I was feeling better, but I have to say, I did the U turn a couple of times before I managed to get out of town. The first time was for the tickets, the second was for the medication and then I managed to out of Travis County. It is rather frustrating, I am a bit foggy and not quite on my game.
I managed to be too late for practice by the time I got sorted out and on the road. I was watching the time and knew there was no use pushing it. I stopped in Hillsborough at the outlets got a couple of things: sleepy shirt, some prettys and a couple of smell good soaps. I don’t really need them, but I figured I would stock up since I was going by and the stores were open. I got to the track and watched a fabulous Nascar truck race, it was exciting all the way through.
I headed off to the hotel and got checked in, same room as the last couple of times I have stayed there. I guess its “my room” now. Saturday I had planned to go to the Kimble museum but I had a major computer crash. Service Pac 1 for Vista: it killed everything on my machine. I spent a frustrating couple of hours going back to the factory install and spent a good part of my day just trying to get back functioning in the digital world.
I headed off to the track later than I normally would: it was blistering hot out and there was no use sweating it out for the IRL race. It was nice to see so many cars on the track, but it did end up in a TX size wreck fest. I think it was 7 or 8 cautions by the time the race ended under a yellow/checkered finish. There were a few long runs, some green flag stops and of course, Helio was running up front. It’s tough for the new drivers: Texas Motor Speedway is a very fast track, a lot had never been on it before and there were some nasty first timer mistakes.
It was nice to have some company at the track: I had gotten some extra vouchers and a friend used them. It was their first time at a race and I think they enjoyed it. I know it was fun for me to have the company. I did sneak them into my section; a lot of the regulars didn’t show up for this race so there was plenty of room.
I left Fort Worth early on Sunday morning: nothing was keeping me their. I headed down the highway and got to the house by 10:30 in the morning. I managed to get my chores done and watch the Cup race from Pocono on the computer as I was reloading programs.
