Defensive Driving, cars and ears.
06/11/2008

I don’t get a parking spot, I don’t get a parking pass and I usually walk/bus to work.

Someone figured out that I actually had a driver’s license and should have been taking a city mandated class for a number of years. I spent all of yesterday in a class room full of other PD employees. You would think they could make the class exciting, with stories, photos and tails from a cops perspective. No, it went strictly by the book, a couple of video clips from a nation wide organization, watered down to the lowest level.  It was pure torture: I wanted to chew my arm off and get out of there. Lucky for me there were two other ladies I socialize with that were taking the course. We managed to sit together. We managed to muddle through the class. The dry tone of the instructor almost put a couple of the folks to sleep. They work the night shift, had only a couple of hours of sleep and were required to attend. It was nice to head out for lunch and have someone else drive the group there.

I did learn one important thing: for a head on collision, head right. Chances are the other driver will over correct and go to your left, so head right, head off the road and then ease on back to the road. I guess I hadn’t thought about the mechanics of a head on crash. It makes sense the way they presented it. I hope I never have to use that trick.

I stopped off and did a bit of shopping and my early voting on the way home. I also stopped at the auto parts store. My check engine light came on and I got a diagnosis. I will pop the hood, dig in and see if it is just a loose connection that is causing the light. If not it will take a couple of days to order the part. It’s a sensor that looks like it went bad. I made an appointment for the ear/balance issue for Thursday morning. I am getting tired of what ever this is. The last round of medication didn’t clear it up, it’s back in full swing. I want to get back to my yoga class. I can’t go right now; I keep tumbling over and don’t look at all graceful thunking over on my mat. Hopefully it will be a simple issue and a quick fix. It is getting old at this point. I just want to know what it is and why it is happening.

Racing news is a bit lacking on my end I have heard some rumors, but they aren’t public yet so…. . I will be heading down for local races this weekend after my chores. I am trying to see if I can get a cheep flight to head out to see another race this summer. I am on the fence right now: the cost is just a bit out of my budget. I could use some more overtime to justify spending the extra.
