Extra Family.
08/10/2008
I met up with my other brother yesterday.
I have an extra one: David had been a family friend for years; we grew up together, started our adventures in Texas a few years apart. He was my brother’s friend, but he was always at the house. We went to movies together, had lunch in the cafeteria at school, raced cars, talked about life. He was always first in line for my chocolate chip cookies, brownies or what ever I had whipped up in the kitchen. We call my Mom by the same name: Mom, we share her.
We have always kept in contact, by phone, by letters, via email. It’s silly he lives in San Antonio now, I live in Austin and we just don’t get to see each other very often. We talked a couple of months ago about getting together more often. He is working a bit closer to me now, a few days a week. It is 20 miles from the race track, but not that far out of the way in Texas mileage. He has a lovely wife, a beautiful 3 year old daughter and he is still attending school. Sometimes life just gets in the way.
I called him yesterday morning, asked if he was working and told him I was just going to stop by and visit. I wouldn’t take no for an answer. I brought him a cherry lime aid, we shared photos chatted a bit and I was off to the racetrack. I smiled all the way to the track; it was so nice to see him in person. I might have to make that a regular stop on the way to the races.
