I am 168 Miles from the Texas coast.

Hurricane Ike is heading this way.

I went ahead and spent the evening putting the large stuff up from the back yard, filling the car with fuel and getting my place ready for a major storm. It looks like Austin will be in the path of Ike and it looks like the west side of the storm will be heading for Austin: the tornado side. My pager started bleeping on the bus ride home. Evacuation plans are starting to come into effect: the shelters are starting to open. The storm is due to hit Friday Night/Saturday morning. ½ a million Texans will be effected. Texas is football country and the high school Friday Night games have been moved to Wednesday and Thursday nights to keep the teams and fans off the roads during the evacuation and the storms. The University of Texas has cancelled its weekend football game: that means serious storm preparations around these parts.

I spoke to TR Tuesday night; she and I haven’t had a good chat in quite a few months. It was great to get caught up with her. She has been working hard over the summer to get ready for her big home purchase: it’s been rescheduled for December and she has surgery scheduled about the same time. It sounds like she is doing well; we are planning a get together for next year. I don’t think we can manage a fall adventure with everything going on with both of us. It was interesting to hear her take on US politics but she isn’t from here, but she is very interested in the US presidential race.

Work has been work; there was a funny thing that happened to a co-worker. I got part of the story on Monday, it but I finally got the whole story Wednesday afternoon. It was something about a movie theater. Pest gate 2.5 has started, I brought the bug spray in and expressed my frustration with the big boss, an email was sent and I was expecting a reaction, but nothing was mentioned yesterday. I keep hearing good things about the class that was put on Tuesday for the detectives: wish I could have attended but I had telephone duty. A new intern started yesterday: a real one this time, not a Barbie. I spent most of the day searching for the Madalyn Murray O’Hare, I found the reports but she is still missing in my world: another unit worked the case & I can’t find the original case jacket.
