A toy, a smile and a laugh.
11/21/2008

Sometimes God works in strange ways.

I went out to dinner Thursday night with a friend: she was stuck in traffic and had this toy in the back seat of her car that was driving her crazy. Each time she stopped in traffic, the toy would talk. She picked me up and I reached in the back seat for the toy and found the switch to turn it off. She told me to throw it way and I said no, I would take it into the office and I dropped it in my purse.

I headed into work expecting a normal Friday, but that wasn’t the case at all. I got my day started and there was a call that came in. A car had been seen that was part of an amber alert. The patrol officers flooded the neighborhood. The car was found and pulled over. The driver of the car co-operated with the officers and led them to where the child was, it was a drug house. The officers were able to recover the child unhurt and the mother was taken into custody and arrested.

The little girl was brought to my office by the crisis team; with her was a meal with another toy in it. I took the toy I got yesterday from out of my purse and matched it up with the toy she just got and it brought a huge smile to her face. The toys were talking up a storm and making her laugh.

I called my friend when I got a chance and told her about how that annoying toy just made a frightened child laugh. We had talked about this child at dinner, wising she would be found. Why did I drop the toy into my purse last night? I am not sure, but I am awfully glad I did.
