Usac, Nascar camping World Series and TSRS late models.
I was watching the weather all week: rain and chilly temperatures. The Camping World touring series, Usac Midgets and our local Texas Super Racing Series hit town for my local race kick off.
The Usac Midgets were up first with their feature: lots cars on track. There was an unexpected red flag to star the feature due to the turn one light pole deciding it didn’t want to work for a bit. It took a while to fix and then the cars got going on the tack for an exciting race. With 60 laps and only a couple of cautions, Bobby East won followed by Darren Hagen then Dakoda Armstrong, Kevin Swindell and Tracy Hines. East lead the field for the whole race so it was a bit further back in the field where the action was. It was great to see the cars on the Thunder Hill track.
The TSRS cars were on the track before that race and to hear the engines rumble to life gave me that warm fuzzy feeling: good thing due to the temperature. I guess the drivers wanted to stay warm: there were a quite a few cautions during the race. more later, on TSRS.
Camping World Series fielded 19 cars for the 150 lap race: Mike Davis was leading most of the race followed by Eric Holmes. There were a few cautions but the flag man seemed to forget he had the yellow a few times as the field was barring down on spun out cars. If they were moving at all there was no yellow flag. There was a caution for the last 3 laps of the race, so it went into a green/white/checkers finish. The line up was Mike David, with Eric Holmes on the outside, Greg Pursley and Moses Smith following close behind. The white flag fell and on turn 1 Mike David’s car went sideways and Greg Purlsey pulled up front. He was followed by Moses Smith and then Eric Holmes got a spot back after a bit of corrective driving. Mike David lost a few more spots and ended up 8th for the night but it sure made an exciting finish for the fans.
I have to admit: I cranked the heat in the car on the way home, I needed to warm up after an exciting night in the brisk tempatures.
